My name is Thierry Corbalan, but they call me "The Corsican Dolphin". I have been practising competition swimming for many years, and the fact that I had both arms amputated doesn’t make it easy. That might be how I got the nickname ... In September 2012, I swam across the Corsican Channel between the island of Elba and the marina at Sisco - 60 kilometres, in 15 hours and 50 minutes. This year, on September 30, I set off at 8:00 am from Cala Maestra beach on the island of Monté Cristo to swim to Arinella Beach in Bastia. In spite of cramps in my right thigh due to the stress exercised by the waves on my mono-fin, and the presence of a shoal of jellyfish towards the end of the stretch, I touched land in Corsica on October 1st at 10:00 after 26 hours of non-stop swimming and 80 kilometres of water behind me. I was exhausted, but I had made it : I was happy and proud as a Corsican dolphin !
