24 hours running non-stop on a treadmill: this was the new challenge that Jean-Claude Perronnet, a blind long-distance runner, performed this weekend. It is a record which has never been achieved until now by a disabled person. He ran 181 kilometres without faltering and with no snags (apart from a blister on one foot after 11 hours of running) even though he said he “did not train enough on long distances”! Thanks to his huge experience and mastery of extra-long distances, he was able to tackle this event with great serenity and confidence.

This challenge, so important to Jean-Claude, was not only a sporting event; this runner, so full of modesty and generosity, wanted above all to draw public attention to the blind. The funds collected during this event were given over entirely to the Valentine Haüy Association to create a service for the loan of high technology communication equipment (computers, SATNAVs…) for the benefit of the visually impaired.

This runner, who has run 106 marathons, 49 100-kilometre races, but also 5 24-hour races on open road and 3 48-hour competitions, has amazed all his supporters once again, as well as his friends and the world of running. Hats off to you, Jean-Claude!
