Aerial tour de France aboard a single-engine airplane by a blind person

Luc slide in a “cockpit” for the first time the 7th of November 2005. After a few months, the use of the airship became more familiar. It is the reason why he made his first challenge: make tour of France by plane with three friends.

Luc and his three friends took a flight on the 9th of June 2006 at 0530 from Visan (84, Vaucluse, south of France) and landed, after 1900 kilometers, at 1842. The date of the tour has been chosen because the weather conditions needed to be the same on all the territories.

This tour of France lasted 13 hours and 12 minutes, with 9 hours and 31 minutes of effective flight. They had to land four times to re-supply with fuel, food and to stretch their legs. Accomplished itinerary: Visan - Agen – Cholet- Arras- Belgium - Dijon – Visan.

To realize this challenge, his three friends were: Jean Andrieux (ex-pilot in the Air Force) his instructor; Alain Druelle, professional pilot and expert in navigation; and Jean Yves Borel, amateur pilot and officer in charge of the authentification.

In every stopping place, a sheriff officer certified of the plane’s landing and taking off.

The aim was to exceed and to establish 2 records (challenges):

The run over distance from sunrise to sunset for a visually deficient person (blind person).

During their breaks, they gathered funds from different local Rotary Clubs in order to buy a guide dog for a blind person.

This is a wonderful message of hope for all disabled people in order for them to realize unexpected things.

This day was a first for a visually disabled person and the local, national and international Medias were of course interested to this event.
