Weird machines
Polaris 500cc variomatic quad racers

Weather conditions
Sunny but cold. 40km/h side wind and greasy turf

Technical detail
The duo composed of Patrick Ricou & Pierre André Valayer is 40kg lighter than our 2-men team, Luc Costermans & Francis Blum

Guided by
Pierre André Valayer & Francis Blum, owners of Fun Parc Aventures in Richerenches (84) that kindly lent us the machines

And with the help of the Valreas (84) local police and its speed camera

Two blindmen have challenged eachother to see who would be the fastest on a quad in a straight line

Patrick Ricou, blind skilled sportsman that distinguished himself through his achivements in mountain climbing and sky diving

Patrick et Pierre André headed off on their quad.
After several tryouts, they had managed to straighten their trajectory.
They passed the police’s speed camera faster and faster to finally mark 92km/h.

As for myself, Francis Blum was guiding me with his hands around my waist.
From his position behind me he could pivot my body in the direction he wanted to and I could adjust my steering. This gave us precision and efficiency. After a few adjustements and with complete trust in my partner we headed for the challenge.
We passed the speed camera a couple of times gaining more confidence each time, and with concentration at its peak, we established the speed of 93km/h.

This was a premiere for the blind
