From 7th to 15th November, I was lucky enough to be able to take part in the "Oman Desert Marathon."
It is a self-sufficiency race, 170 km (105 miles) in 6 stages.
This is the second time that the race has been organized, and the small number of participants makes you feel comfortable.
The desert is magical, just sand and dunes as far as the eye can see, no obstacles. For visually impaired people like us, it is relatively easier than other ultra races.
"21, 26, 20, 34, 40 and 34 km: these are the distances we covered with our backpacks! We had tents to rest in, and it was a pleasure just to enjoy the calmness, to move onwards in this immense space under a blue sky, with a temperature between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius. Of course, ones in front are anxious to set a record, but like most of the others, I really enjoyed participating in the race for its own sake. As long as you take care of your feet and make sure to get enough hydration, it’s such a pleasure ! You have to have done it at least once! "
Saïd Mohammad Al-Hajri is the organizer, and, like all Omanis, he is very welcoming.
Don’t hesitate to sign up for the adventure!
