A “Croizon Academy” is created in Vichy
The French Centre for Young Disabled Swimmers, the first of its kind, had been established at the CREPS, the Regional Sports Centre, in Vichy since 2011. But in September 2018, for strategic reasons, the French Handisport Federation decided to relocate the structure to Bordeaux... "Without providing sufficient guarantees that the same level of overall service quality that had been offered in Vichy would be maintained", added the quadruple amputee, Philippe Croizon, regretfully.
The idea then occurred to him to create a structure that would replace the French Centre, while maintaining the same type of functioning in terms of high-level requirements.
One of the rising stars on the French swimming scene is no longer a "junior" and out to conquer the most prestigious podiums. He was settled in Vichy and didn’t want to leave, so he sent out an SOS to his mentor. "I’ve been training in this Centre for five years. The Tokyo Games are only two years away, and this academy allows me to combine my studies and high-level sport in optimal conditions” said Théo Curin.
Supporting this project for young swimmers was "only natural" for Philippe Croizon, whose own life, he claims, was rebuilt thanks to swimming. He sees sport as "the way to achieve absolute resilience" and feels the need to "pass on his experience", to prove that "anything is possible". "And if it allows young people to win titles, I will be overjoyed !”, he adds.
